2021-2022 Impact of Repeated Transient Neck Compression in Combat Sports on Carotid Intima-Media Thickness and Markers of Chronic Brain.

Injury. Co-investigator with Drs Stellpflug, Zwank, Lefevere, and Hasan of Regions Hospital on a grant from Minnesota Office of Higher Education- Spinal Cord Injury and Traumatic Brain Injury Research Grant Program.

2019-2022 Investigation as to the mechanism of unconsciousness from vascular neck restraint. Analysis of data to date and protocol development for a study, with non-invasive technology, to better ascertain the mechanism. This is a multicenter study between Regions and United hospitals in association with the St. Paul Police Department’s self-defense instructors.

2016-2022 Conivaptan for the Reduction of Cerebral Edema in Intracerebral Hemorrhage – A Safety and Tolerability Study (PI: Dr. Jesse Corry). United Hospital Medical Education and Research Committee. Enrollment has finished and in the process or data review for presentation this April.

2020-2022 ASPIRE Trial. Site PI. A randomized, double-blinded, phase 3 clinical trial designed to test the efficacy and safety of apixaban, compared with aspirin, in patients with a recent intracerebral hemorrhage and high-risk non-valvular atrial fibrillation.

SATURN Trial. Site PI. A multicenter, prospective, open-label, randomized trial to determine whether continuation vs. discontinuation of statin drugs after spontaneous lobar intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is the best strategy; and whether the decision to continue/discontinue statins should be influenced by an individual’s Apolipoprotein-E (APOE) genotype.

2019-2022 Sleep SMART. Site Co-Investigator. A phase 3 trial to determine whether treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) with positive airway pressure started shortly after acute ischemic stroke or high risk TIA (1) reduces recurrent stroke, acute coronary syndrome, and all-cause mortality during 6 months after the event, and (2) improves stroke outcomes at 3 months in patients who experienced an ischemic stroke.

2018-2022t ARCADIA trial. Site Co-Investigator. ARCADIA is a multicenter, phase 3 clinical trial of apixaban versus aspirin in patients who have evidence of atrial cardiopathy and a recent stroke of unknown cause.

2015-2019 Utility of Procalcitonin for Diagnosis of Bacterial Infection Related Systemic Inflammatory Response in the Acute Neurologic Injury Population: A Retrospective Cohort Study Principal.

Investigator. Study number 720352-2. PI- Jesse Corry, MD. A retrospective study looking at the utility of the procalcitonin biomarker with SIRS criteria in the stroke and acute brain injury population to differentiate bacterial causes of inflammation.

2014- 2017 POINT Trial. Site Co-PI. Study objective is to compare efficacy of dual antiplatelet therapy to aspirin in preventing major ischemic events at 90 days.

2011-2013 Effects of Hypertonic Saline on Renal Function. Primary Investigator. A retrospective review of the effects of hypertonic saline on renal function. Data from this review will be used for hypothesis driven studies focusing on means to treat and prevent cerebral edema.

2008-2013 Hypothermia for Refractory Status Epilepticus. Primary Investigator. A phase I study investigating the safety and tolerability of hypothermia in the treatment of refractory status epilepticus. Centers involved are Henry Ford Health Systems in Detroit and Washington University/Barnes Jewish Hospital in St Louis. Results presented at several regional and national meetings.

2007 Investigating the use of hypothermia in status epilepticus. Faculty Mentor: Michael N. Diringer, MD. Designed protocols for the use of hypothermia in status epilepticus using endovascular catheters, reported the Washington University experience with this, and reviewed the literature on this subject.

2017-2022 Development of Teleneurology. Allina Health System telemedicine initiative. Provides acute and in-hospital total neurologic consultation to rural and underserved sites.

2016-2022 Development of an acute inpatient neurology program. Allina Health System project to develop a neurohospitalist program developed to (a) reduce length of stay and cost of care, (b) incorporated evidence-based practices to order entry to streamline consulting process, (c) improve neurology presence in critical care and ED cases, and (d) reduce ED visit/hospital admission recidivism.

2015-2016 Standardize the Transition of Acute Stroke Patients to Inpatient Rehab. Allina Health System AATP investigation to ascertain if more stroke patients could be transitioned to acute inpatient rehab. Result was a set of improved definitions to better qualify reasons patients rejected for acute inpatient rehabilitation and quarterly review of outcomes of patients rejected for acute inpatient rehab.
